Resize All Table Columns

TableCleaner provides four options for resizing multiple tables in a document. Choose one of the four options (explained below) and move the table formats that you want to resize into the "Include tables tagged" scroll list.

To move table format names from one scroll list to the other, do one of the following:

  • Select a format name in the list, and click the appropriate arrow button.
  • Double-click on a format name in the list.

To move all of the format names to the opposite scroll list, do one of the following:

  • Select a format name in the list, and shift-click the appropriate arrow button.
  • Shift-double-click on a format name in the list.

Check Save document before resizing table columns to save the document before the command runs. This will allow you to use File > Revert to saved to undo the changes.

NOTE: If you choose the Save option for an Untitled document, you will be prompted for a location and name for the file. Cancelling the Save dialog does not cancel the Resize Table Columns command.

Proportionately resize tables to text column width

Tables matching the tags in the Include scroll list will be proportionately resized to the text column containing the table’s anchor point. Each table’s left or right indents, if any, will be preserved in the resize calculation. If a table is anchored in a straddle paragraph, it will be resized to the width of straddle area (minus the table’s left or right indents, if any). NOTE: In a single-column layout, this option will give the same results as resizing to the text frame width.

Proportionately resize tables to the text frame width

This option works the same as above, except the tables are proportionately resized to the text frame width, regardless of the number of columns in the text frame. Each table’s left or right indents, if any, will be preserved in the resize calculation.

Resize ALL table columns to selected table’s column widths

This option provides a way to resize table columns "by example." Resize the columns of an existing table to your liking. Click in the table, choose Resize All Tables, and select this option. All tables matching the tags in the Include scroll box will be resized to the same widths as the selected table.

If a target table has more columns than the example table, only the columns that correspond to the example table will be applied to the target table. For example, if your example table has 3 columns, then the first 3 columns of all of the tables in the Include scroll box will be resized.

In this example, only the first 3 column widths of the example table will be applied to the target tables.

Resize ONLY table columns indicated

This option, like the previous one, provides a way to resize table columns "by example." With this option, you can select which columns from the previous example are applied to your target tables. Resize the columns of an existing table to your liking. Click in the table, choose Resize All Tables, and select this option. Check the columns that you want to apply. You can use the ALL ON and ALL OFF buttons to turn all checkboxes on or off quickly.
